What We Believe – Longview Deaf Church
1. The Bible The 66 books in the Bible are God's perfect Word. They tell us how to live and believe. (Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
2. God Is Three in One God has always existed as three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
3. Jesus Christ Jesus is God who became a man. He died on the cross, came back to life, and went up to heaven. (Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2,14, Romans 3:24-25; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 2:24; 1 John 2:2; Acts 1:9 10; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; 9:24; 1 John 2:1-2)
4. The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit helps us know when we do wrong, helps us turn to God, and lives in everyone who believes in Jesus. (John 16:8 11; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Ephesians 1:13-14,; John 16:13; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:18; 1 John 2:20,27)
5. People Are Made in God’s Image Every person is made to be like God in a special way. (Genesis 1:26- 27)
6. Sin Separates Us from God Because of Adam’s sin, we are all born separated from God unless He saves us. (Romans 3:22-23; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1 3,12)
7. Salvation by Grace Through Faith We can only be saved from sin by God’s gift of grace, which comes when we trust in Jesus as our Lord. A person who trusts in Jesus is saved forever. (John 1:12; 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1,38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:5,18 19)
8. Good Works Come After Salvation Doing good things doesn’t save us—but when we’re saved, we will want to do good. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:13; 8:12-13; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:10; 1 Peter 1:14-16; 1 John 3:5-9)
9. Telling Others About Jesus People who believe in Jesus should show and share the good news with everyone. (Matthew 28:18-20)
10. Spiritual Gifts God gives each believer special gifts to help and build up the church. (Ephesians 4:7-14; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 1 Peter 4:10-11 )
11. Life After Death One day, everyone will rise from the dead—some to live forever with God, and some to face punishment forever. (Matthew 25:46; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Revelation 20:5,6,12-13)
